PIXX BITCH

Veering away from the heavily synth-based sound of her brilliant recent single ‘Disgrace’, the second single from South London-based solo artist Pixx’s sophomore album is a gritty guitar ripper. Opening with a simple yet effect drum roll, ‘Bitch’ hits hard with a garagey riff as Pixx’s new-found snarl writhes with life-affirming lyrics. Discussing the track Hannah Rodgers explained, "I wrote this song in the cellar of my flat in South London; it happened very quickly. At the time I was feeling pent up and frustrated with myself and others. I was in the middle of reading The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan, finding it hard to digest and communicate. That's why this song means a lot to me; it's about accepting and forgiving yourself for struggling; not being too hard on yourself for getting stuck in your head, and finding the relief in waking up and getting out of your hole to show the world you're a strong bitch." Coming complete with surreal half-animated visuals, featuring Edie Lawrence’s unmistakably kooky clay work, the goggle-eyed cast watch on as Rodgers terrorises the town. Small Mercies will arrive on the 7th of June via 4AD. -Holly Mullineaux
